why does heat/air fan only blow through defrost ducts, regardless of where control lever is on1990 camaro?

And how do I fix this problem?
Along with air coming out of defrost vents, I also feel air coming out under dash coming toward feet. Although I can feel air coming from under dash, it is not coming out vents on console, just from underneath dash. What is the easiest way to access doors? Do I have to remove console? Hope not!!

Your ventilation controls are vacuum controlled. you have a vacuum line with a check valve in it going through the fire wall check for a good strong vacuum at the connector there. If you have a good vacuum at the fire wall remove the ac controls and check the bundle of hoses on the back of the switch and the switch it self. You will need a #15 torx screw driver to remove the bezel around the ac controls. If you don't have a good vacuum at the fire wall check the check valve for holes also check the vacuum reservoir I don't remember for sure where it is but I think it is down low in one of the fenders so follow the vacuum line back you could also have a broken or leaking vacuum line.
