Can I make a coil to increase battery voltage?
I have a physics project where we have to lift a weight with 1.5V battery. I was thinking outside the box and thought if I created a coil that increased the voltage to become much stronger it would make the motor move faster. Is this possible to do with a battery? And maybe some tips how to start?
Don't bother. To make the motor lift a weight faster you need more power, and ultimately it's a question of how rapidly the battery can deliver energy. There is a limit to how rapidly the battery can deliver current, whether you put it into a voltage multiplier or drive the motor directly. The success of your project depends on good mechanical engineering (little friction in the lifting apparatus, high quality low voltage motor). As for the battery, if the rule says 1.5v battery then use a size C cell rather than an AA or AAA. If you can use several cells in parallel, so much the better. You may even find that a large rechargeable cell with a nominal voltage of 1.2V will actually perform better than a 1.5V disposable cell, because of the lower internal resistance.
