what is the best way to gather a crowd for a street performance?

i am a college student that needs some extra cash and loves to perform. i play the drums on trash cans and 5 gallon paint buckets, as well as ride a unicycle and juggle. i need to know how to gather a group to watch and maybe consider my performance worth a couple bucks......

Setup your performance space so it attracts attention. Have a huge billboard with a picture of you doing your act.

Play loud music. Have an opening act like dancers or mimes.

Use lights at night.

Wear colorful, outlandish costumes and use loud sounds to introduce your act.

Have a couple of shills work the crowd for you.

Decorate your props to look more interesting. People will stop & stare at a drum set fashioned completely out of cans & buckets. They won't be interested in a couple of cans on the sidewalk, however.

Hand out sticks & chimes, and invite the audience to join in.
