2000 BMW 728i Radio Problem?

The radio in my car cuts out sometimes when speeding up, or when going over a bump in the road, so when it cuts off, I turn the radio off, get out of the car and slam the boot.
When I come back into the car and turn it on, the radio works again! Don't ask me how I came to finding this solution lol, but long story short, I recently had to replace my bootlid! Haha!
So, I definitely know that this is a wiring problem as vibrations through the car affect the radio going on and off.
However, now the radio is COMPLETELY dead. Not even radio stations appear on the TV screen, and I have no clue as what to do about this problem. I have had the radio tested and the radio is absolutely fine.
BMW suggest that I replace the whole radio system of course they would suggest that, because its a good couple of thousand pounds! Does anyone have any CHEAPER solutions or ideas on fixing the problem?

Any thoughts/ideas would be most appreciated,

Hi Matt,

The radio unit for your car is in the left hand side of the boot. I have known these play up to the point where they only work sporadically. Is this the unit you have had tested or have you tested the screen/monitor unit? It could be that it decided to work all the time when tested.
I have also seen a few examples of water ingress in the left boot area through body repairs/ spills etc.

I'm guessing you have been to a dealer ? What exactly did they say you need and the reasoning for it. If you have paid for diagnosis then they should be able to tell you that.
