If the front suspension on my car is damaged, could it mean my frame has also been damaged?
I'm driving a 2007 BMW 328i and the other day, as I was turning onto the onramp on the freeway, my front driver side wheel hit the curb at around 40 mph (that's a really high estimate... I hit the brakes before so I'm sure it was less). Afterwards, the steering wheel was way off, and so was my alignment. When the left wheel pointed straight, the right wheel was turned to the right rather badly. The back left rim was cracked, and the front left rim was badly scratched along the edge. I took the car to BMW and the technician mentioned the left front suspension was pretty damaged... the following items needed replacement: strut mount, hub bearing, wishbone, tie rod, steering rack, stabilizer bar link, two rims, two tires... etc. NOW my question is... how likely is it that my frame was affected as well? I really hope it wasn't, since I know that this could heavily affect the car's drivability... please help!
The odds of having bent the frame severely do exist but I wouldn't count on it. If you are worried about it, you can have it checked before fixing the rest of the car, and then determine the cost of straightening if it is possible. I would be willing to bet that the frame has been bent ever so slightly, but not so much that an alignment can't compensate for it.
