Help please: 99 Mustang GT 5spd stalls and dies when slowing to a stop?
The vehicle is a 99 GT with a 5spd. The problem happens rarely and only at slow speed but none the less it is worrisome. For example, if I'm coasting to a stop at a light or a stop sign at 10-15 mph with the clutch depressed, the brake applied, and the shifter in gear, sometimes the car just dies. I can restart and continue on my way just fine but I want to get this fixed for obvious reasons. Could this be caused by a low level vacuum leak? If so, where at? Vacuum lines look serviceable and no obvious leaks. Car idles fine 95% of the time, the other 5% it has a surging idle from 600rpm to 1000rpm. No CEL, no other driveability issues. Motor seems to be in a good state of tune. Clutch is a Ford Motor Sport King Cobra with about 25K miles on it. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Susie,
Thanks douche. What, pray tell, do you drive and why the hell are you posting on the Ford message board?
my 99 gt did the same thing. it turns out it was the IAC.....take it off and spray it with some brake cleaner. dry it off and put it back on. this will be a temp fix and eventually you will need to buy a new one and if i remember correctly they run between $50-$75 for a new one.
