Do you need to drain your fuel tank when replacing a fuel filter?
I have a 2003 buick century and was wondering if I need to drain my fuel tank before I replace the fuel filter...
I have already pulled both the fuel pump fuse and relay. I dont want to disconnect my fuel lines and have gas draining all over the ground or something!
No. If you pull the fuel pump fuse, and then run the car until it dies, you will have some fuel spill out, but very little. This procedure is done mostly so it is not under pressure, as opposed to any concern about the volume of fuel that will spill out. Although it will be less, there will still be some. A decent sized rag will usually soak it all up without it even hitting the ground, if you run the car out of gas.
