95 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Drivetrain?
I have a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.0L strait 6 with 200k miles, with full time 4 wheel drive. I have not had any problems with it until recently. When I turn corners at low speeds I get a grinding noise coming from the front end. I replaced both axle shafts. The boot on the left shaft was torn when I replaced it. Now the boot on the replacement tore. I replaced that, but I still have the grinding and I started getting a vibration at highway speeds. Also, at any speed I hear a whirring noise coming from where the front differential is that wasn't there before. It also feels like there engine is fighting resistence in the front end... almost like it is being forced. I opened the front diff and there were not metal shavings in the oil. What could possibly be wrong?
I had a 98 and the exact same things started happening with mine (vibration at highway speeds/allignment seemed off). I ended up having to take it in a couple of times before they finally replaced the tirods and that solved the problem. Good Luck!
