Battery Switch Ext

Need help with deciding on subs/install?

Alright well i'm going to be doing my first sub install in a few months. I still am not 100% sure on some stuff.

First of all, I am going with kicker CVR subs. Originally, I was going to go with 12", but recently, I am not sure if I should switch to 10". I also have picked out an enclosure for my truck. (2002 chevy silverado ext. cab)

Ok so here is a list of my questions. Try to answer the ones you know.

If I go with 2 12" 800W subs, do I get 4ohm or 2ohm?

How big of an amp should I get to power these? I was thinking 500w?

In my truck, I have a Optima "6 pack" style battery. Its expensive and good quality. So would I still need a separate car battery for this?

Do I need a capacitor?

Do I need a new alternator?

Wiring suggestions?

Ok so thats about all the questions I have, thanks for helping me out.

OK first things first when regarding watts always go with RMS peak watts are worthless. As for an amplifier i'm guessing that those subs are 400 RMS you should get an amplifier that produces 800 RMS and preferably one that is CEA -2006 Compliant. You choose the resistance of the sub when you choose an amplifier you get these options with 2 2ohm subs http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=22
and you get these with the 2 4ohm subshttp://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=42
.for eg.If you get an amplifier that produces 800w RMS at 2ohms then you should get the 2 2ohms as they can be wired to 2ohms.For only 800 RMS i don't think you would need another battery. You do not need a capacitor if you have any problems with dimming lights then you should upgrade the Big 3(power wire from alt-battery ground from chassis to battery and engine block to chassis.)I think that the 02 silverado has a 130 amp alternator so that would be sufficient. And as for wiring you should go with 4 gauge this site has a nice onehttp://knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Amp%20Installation%20Kits. Hope i helped.
