how can you reverse the direction of rotation of a small electric motor?
i hav a small electric motor, like da ones in a toy car....it runs with batteries (d.c.).
I want to reverse the direction of rotation for a short time (eg. 3-4 sec) after i open the circuit.......can i do it without reversing the battery polarity.....eg. using a capacitor or something.........??
You could do it with a capacitor and a diode bridge. If you hooked up the capacitor and the motor right, the capacitor (which charges when the battery is connected) would drive the motor with a reverse polarity when the battery is disconnected with a switch, but the drive would last only as long as the capacitor had enough charge on it to operate the motor. This will normally require a very large capacitor or a very small motor. It would probably be more practical just to use a double pole, double throw switch to reverse the polarity momentarily before shutting off the circuit altogether.
