Grey Panzer
Grey Panzer
WW2 - Did German Panzer divisions (Western front/Ardennes) repaint their tanks in the winter?
I've been unable to track down any solid information on the subject. I've read that they were painted white/gray in Dec '44, but also that they were not repainted but covered in makeshift camo from white/gray cloth, mud and branches.
Any information offered, including any links to images or book recommendations, will be greatly appreciated.
Winter camouflage existed as the link below documents; whitewash was one recommended measure, as were expedients like snow and sheets even.
American tanks used snow and tarps for cover; some troops had white smocks to cover their uniforms.
Photographs are unreliable for several reasons-- lighting, contrast, kind of film, condition of photo/film, etc.
