Why are some car manufacturers have different specification on valve lash clearance in warm or cold engine ?
when you not follow this temperature specification while adjusting mechanical valve lifters in some engine models.. will it harm the engine badly ?
When adjusting the engine required is hot but you adjust it while it's cold.
When adjusting the engine required is cold but you adjust it while it's hot.
as the motor heats up the metal in the valve train expands tightening the lash spec. so if you are inside of the range between the hot and cold spec you are probably ok. if you set it to the hot spec when it is fully cold it is posible that the valve could tighten up enoughto to stick open and cause misfireing or rough idle when hot. too loose or cold spec when hot and the added slack will make a clicking noise worse when cold. this creates wear on the valve stem leading to the need to re adjust the lash sooner
