Alternatives to the coast guard.?
I have a definite love for the ocean... I'm 20 years old, athletic, and was raised on a sail boat. I live in redondo beach and have made trips on my families catalina 30 and cabo rico 38 to ensanada mexico, and san francisco... the rougher the sea and stronger the winds the happier i am. I've thought about the coast guard for ages but want to look in to other alternatives... Could you list some?
From a nautical standpoint, the Navy is your only other option. It isn't really the same thing tho. I have been a life-long water-related enthusiast, but being on an aircraft carrier like was couldn't have been much farther from small craft. Bosnmates do have opportunities to do small boat stuff, but they also have a lot more "opportunities" to paint(in-port) and stand watches(at sea). An aircraft carrier is amazing in its own right, especially from an engineering standpoint, but you have to be in some REALLY rough seas to feel much of anything. USCG is probably your best bet.
